Are the Results of Porcelain Veneers Reversible?

When it comes to minimally invasive dental treatments that can powerfully enhance your smile, porcelain veneers offer a wide scope of improvements. By bonding a veneer to the front of the enamel, patients can reclaim the size, shape, color, and dimensions of a healthy and youthful tooth. That said, these results aren’t possible without first removing a tiny amount of tissue from the affected tooth in order to make room for the veneer. This allows a porcelain veneer to look (and feel) similar to a natural tooth while masking:

  • Chips and fractures
  • Gaps and asymmetries in a tooth
  • Deep discoloration
  • Short, worn, or uneven teeth

Since porcelain veneers require a small amount of tooth preparation in order to ensure a comfortable, natural fit, treatment with veneers is not reversible. However, a porcelain veneer is a relatively conservative technique compared to other restorations and patients do not generally feel the need to “reverse” their treatment. Our skilled dentists speak to each person about their unique concerns and expectations for the outcome prior to veneer placement to help ensure you find the best possible solution to achieve your goals.

If you currently have a veneer that’s causing sensitivity, discomfort, or you’re simply unhappy with the way it looks or feels, our cosmetic dentist can replace your restoration to improve the result. This may be beneficial for patients who believe their veneer doesn’t feel natural, or who have a poor bite.

At Scripps Center for Dental Care, we offer in-house treatments for a range of cosmetic, restorative, and family dentistry needs. Whether you’re interested in porcelain veneers to hide cosmetic imperfections or a full mouth rehabilitation to restore lost function, our dental team provides gentle, effective care to achieve your goals.
